Parental Television Control

Family watching tv

Why is parental television control needed?

Parental control is needed because children are affected by what they see on TV and they need active play time to develop develop mentally, physically and socially.

Young children don't know the difference between programs and commercials, so they don't discriminate among various kinds of programming that they see.

Even older children and adults are influenced by the programming they see, but they are expected to be more discriminating in their viewing habits.

What Can Parents Do?

Some options for parents include the parental controls that are built into television sets since 1999 (v-chip). These include the Television Rating System incorporated into television programing, which is read and potentially blocked by the V-Chip (see v-chip faqs).

Using Parental Controls

Parental controls are programmed using the TV remote. Programming information is available from ControlYourTV.com
